The most common causes requiring bone grafting are:
- a regenerative surgical repair of periodontally affected teeth
- insertion of a dental implant in a place without adequate quantity of bone
After the removal of a tooth, the atrophy of inactive bony substance not holding any teeth comes about, both its height and its width decreases. If a previously removed tooth is to be replaced with an implant, there is a high chance a bone replacement will be needed in the area of intervention.
